BOOK TIP:  The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

The American Library Association announced its Youth Media Award winners last week.  This includes the Newbery Award, the Caldecott Medal among others.  The Michael Printz Award goes to the best literature for young adults and this year's winner was The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo.  It is a novel in verse about a young Dominican girl growing up in Harlem.  She longs to be a poet and be free of the restrictions of her body, her family, the church.  A moving novel.
